It’s official: The cocktail is having a renaissance. Here are six devilishly delicious drinks that, let’s be honest, are just too much of a pain to ask the bartender to make.
1. Mai Tai
A mai tai is a tart, refreshing cocktail that’ll transport you to Hawaii no matter where you are. But unless you’re at a tiki bar, it’s probably just going to cause a lot of extra work for the bartender. And who knows if they’ll even have all the ingredients. Probably more trouble than it’s worth.
2. Blood And Sand
Sure, it would be great to try this fruity, smoky scotch-based cocktail, but what if the bartender doesn’t know how to make it? It’ll just look embarrassing for both of you. Maybe just make this one on your own at home some time.
3. Mojito
Maybe if it were four in the afternoon and you were the only one in there. At 11 o’clock on a Saturday night at a dive bar, though, it might be worth reconsidering. The line’s backed up as it is. You want to make it worse by ordering a mojito?
4. Negroni
Here’s what would happen if you got a negroni: The bartender would spend a bunch of time preparing it for you, charge you 10 to 12 bucks, and you probably wouldn’t even like it that much. Because it’s a fancy drink, and at the end of the day, you don’t need a fancy drink. You’re fine drinking anything.
5. Gin Fizz
This signature New Orleans cocktail has an egg in it. You’re really going to ask the bartender to make you a thing with an egg in it?
6. Hot Toddy
This beverage requires heating. Who are you kidding? Just get a whiskey ginger ale and call it a night.
