You’re going to need a bigger TV…because it’s ‘Shark Week’ on Discovery Channel! Here are some reasons we are totally obsessed with this annual television tradition.

1. We think maybe it’ll give us something to talk to people about, which can be hard sometimes.

2. Sometimes you don’t have anything to say to your coworkers or even your friends. It’s kind of cool you can at least talk about sharks for a little bit.

3. It’s sort of a shared experience. People know what it is, and they can get behind it. It’s nice to have that.

4. If you tell people that you’re watching Shark Week, they might assume that you often do things. Fun things.

5. It’s especially good if you don’t watch the other shows they watch, like Mad Men or Game Of Thrones. You can just sit down and watch sharks for a week.

6. Look, some of us don’t really have a thing, okay? But then something like Shark Week comes along and all of a sudden, for a whole week, there’s this thing that everyone is basically aware of. For that week, for that one week, life is a little bit easier. You can bring it up with your coworkers, like, “Hey, did you see that thing on Shark Week? That was pretty cool.” People understand it. They get what it is, and they’re down to hear about it for a minute or so. It helps. It helps a lot, actually.
