ISIS has proved time and time again that there is no act too barbaric to perpetuate its message of hate and violence, but the latest announcement from the terrorist group just might be its most atrocious move to date. In a shocking new video released yesterday, ISIS has revealed that it’s acquired a dunk tank.
This is horrifying.
Pentagon officials have confirmed that the video is un-doctored, and additional security assets acquired by satellite video also seem to corroborate ISIS’s claim that the dunk tank is of the mobile, rental variety, making it incredibly difficult to track. Even now, it’s unclear which safe house is storing it, effectively making a drone strike to neutralize the dunk tank impossible.
Absolutely chilling.
How ISIS acquired the popular carnival game remains a mystery, but now that it has it, the humiliation and fundraising capabilities of this dunk tank could be devastating. And if this particular water chamber is anywhere near the 350 gallon average for a dunk tank of this make, that’s more than enough to spell total embarrassment for anyone teetering in the seat above the dunk zone. But here’s what make this truly troubling: If ISIS begins selling or raffling off balls to toss at the dunk tank target, this has the potential to help bankroll attacks in Syria and around the world.
Of further concern to U.S. officials is that the absence of a demonstration in the video leaves virtually no insight into the tank’s functionality. According to Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter, we could very well be looking at a “highly sensitive trigger situation,” where nicking the outer edge of the bull’s-eye or even pelting the clown faces on either side of the target could drop the platform.
Things are looking pretty grim on this one. Currently, U.S. officials are following the money trail and gathering as much information as they can in an effort to target and destroy the dunk tank before ISIS can make it fully operational. It goes without saying that if we don’t act fast on this one, the consequences could define a new low point in the war on terror.
