As the world leader of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis has completely dedicated his life to his faith, but what he did last night proves that the pope is willing to go well above and beyond the call of duty in service to his religion: Pope Francis stayed up all night making a Squarespace page for Catholicism.
Absolutely inspiring! We didn’t think it was possible, but Pope Francis just got even cooler.
At around 7 p.m. last night, after praying the Rosary and the Vespers, the pope sat down at his desktop computer in the Vatican guesthouse and started exploring all the customizable themes and templates on Squarespace in order to create an informative and intuitive homepage for the Catholic faith. Although it was nearly midnight by the time the pope had settled on a template and written a brief message welcoming visitors to “the digital home of Catholicism,” Pope Francis chose to forgo sleep and instead spent the next several hours using the website builder to make an “Our Mission” page, a page titled “Some Important Saints,” a biography page for each of the church’s past popes, and a tab titled “Notable Members” that linked to a list of some popular Catholic celebrities and public figures.
At around 4:50 a.m. this morning, after putting the finishing touches on a photo gallery called “Some Beautiful Catholic Fountains,” a weary Pope Francis posted the site and made the big announcement on Twitter.
Although the pope still has some sizing problems on many of the site’s images, including an enormous picture of St. Peter’s Basilica that obscures part of the two-paragraph history of the church the pope typed up, it’s seriously cool to browse the site and see all the work the pope put in to give Catholicism a simple, intuitive homepage. And knowing just how awesome the pope is, you have to figure he’ll be back at it tonight to finish typing up all the empty past-pope bio links that currently lead to an error page.
The most amazing part is that after Pope Francis spent all those late-night hours building a new website, he was still back up at 6 a.m. the next day preparing his daily Mass. Only someone as awesome as Pope Francis would be willing to lose a night putting in hours of extra work to make a website for his followers. This just proves that he’s officially the best pope of all time!
