Inspiring! This Woman Is Helping Save The Environment By Reusing The Same Furniture Every Day

Most people don’t consider the impact they have on the environment.

That’s exactly why we wish more people were like Susan Albright. Susan is a Lansing, MI–area sales representative and self-proclaimed environmentalist who is challenging herself to go one full year without throwing out her furniture. She’s on a mission to stick with one set of furnishings for 365 days, keeping the pieces in her apartment so they can be reused over and over again.

Incredible!

According to Susan, just the simple daily activity of replacing your furniture can create hundreds of tons of landfill waste each year. So, by not tossing out her cabinets, tables, and sofas every afternoon like she usually does, Susan estimates she’ll be preventing hundreds of pounds of glass, wood, metal, and memory foam from being wasted every month.

Susan admits that it’s a bit of a sacrifice, but says it’s worth the cost.

“It’s hard to use the same chair or dresser day after day for weeks at a time, but it really makes a difference,” Susan said. “By reusing your mattress even just 30 times before throwing it away, you’re vastly cutting down on the amount of garbage you produce.”

Susan went on to say that even though she’ll likely continue throwing out the furniture in her office, including filing cabinets, desks, and chairs, on a daily basis, she’s made a vow to send all the metal to a scrap yard for recycling. Remarkable.
