In the midst of huge world events like the Ebola outbreak and airstrikes in Syria, it’s hard to believe people could be so easily distracted by a bunch of ridiculous dance videos. If you’ve been on the internet recently, you know exactly which web phenomenon I’m referring to: the “Harlem Shake” video meme that seems to have taken the online community by storm.
Well, I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’ve had just about enough of all these “Harlem Shake” videos that have been going around.
Sure, the first couple were fun. I liked the Norwegian Army one, and the University of Georgia swim team’s take on it was at least a little unique. But at this point, just about everyone seems to have made one of these videos, and the novelty has definitely worn off. Maybe I’m in the minority here, but as far as I’m concerned, this is one viral phenomenon that has really overstayed its welcome.
It’s just so annoying that every time you go online, you’re immediately bombarded with another one of these things. You can’t get through your day without hearing about how so-and-so made a “Harlem Shake” video or having someone say, “You’ve gotta see this ‘Harlem Shake’ video—it’s the best one!” And even though it hasn’t happened yet, I know it’s only a matter of time before someone tries to rope me into making a “Harlem Shake” video with them!
…this is one viral phenomenon that has really overstayed its welcome.
Well, I’m sorry, but I’m going to have to disappoint them, because after watching a million and one of these things, I’ve definitely seen just about all I can take. Whenever I watch another one, my reaction is always the same: “Who cares?” I’ve even reached the point where I’m actively avoiding them. That’s how tired I am of the so-called “Harlem Shake.”
Why is everyone so obsessed with these stupid videos?
In all likelihood, the “Harlem Shake” craze will die down soon and become just another viral video trend that ran its course (personally, it can’t come fast enough for me). In the meantime, don’t bother sending me any more “Harlem Shake” videos! I’ve had my fill, thank you very much.
