It’s time to celebrate, because the long-running comic strip Beetle Bailey has joined the fight for LGBT equality in a major way.
The strip’s publisher, King Features Syndicate, has just announced the addition of an extra panel to every existing Beetle Bailey comic—going all the way back to the series’ beginning in 1950—in which Beetle proudly announces that he’s bisexual.
Now THAT’S awesome!
There aren’t many bisexual men in popular culture, so courageous moves like this go a long way toward acceptance. Just check out how awesome the strips are with the newly added messages of tolerance:
Wow. Seriously amazing!
Having a popular comic character like Beetle not just come out as bi, but proudly mention it at every opportunity is a powerful symbol for both LGBT people in the military and the community as a whole. Advancing the civil rights of LGBT people is everyone’s responsibility, and it’s wonderful to see Beetle Bailey take this major step for inclusivity!
