Chris Evans has been landing lead roles in major Hollywood movies for nearly 20 years now, and there’s no sign of him leaving the top of the marquee anytime soon. We sat down with the ‘Captain America’ actor to discuss his legacy in superhero movies and his political activism on Twitter.
1. How did you get into shape to play Captain America?
I did this diet where you have to juggle whatever foods you eat for an hour before you eat them, and if you drop them you have to start over. Not only is it great cardio, but it forces you to choose the roundest foods, which also tend to be the healthiest.
2. What’s it been like building the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the Russo brothers?
You’d think it would be because they’re two of the biggest directors in the game right now, but they’re honestly the same, down-to-earth guys they were when they directed smaller movies like You, Me and Dupree. Anytime they give me direction, whether it’s, “In this next scene, try fighting Iron Man as if he was your best friend named Dupree and he was trying to have sex with your wife, Kate Hudson,” or something like, “Captain America is basically Dupree and Iron Man is essentially also Dupree, and they butt heads because there can only be one Dupree, also Hulk is like Dupree too, and Black Panther as well,” it’s obvious that success didn’t change them. They’re totally true to their roots.
3. What direction would you like to see Captain America go in upcoming Marvel films?
I would love for Captain America to get a new shield that has a sassy expression written on it. Something like “My Superpower Is Making Wine Disappear!” or “I Just Rescued You…From An Empty Bottle Of Wine!” I am really open to anything in that vein.
4. Infinity War saw the demise of several beloved Marvel characters, but a lot of fans suspect these figures aren’t dead for good. Can you confirm or deny whether we’ll see any of these characters pop up again?
Well, all I can say right now is that the Guardians of the Galaxy are definitely dead, but not because of anything Thanos did. They all died of carbon monoxide poisoning after napping inside their ship in a closed garage with the ignition still turned on.
5. You’ve been an active critic of Donald Trump on Twitter. What made you decide to speak out?
I don’t follow politics much, but as far as I can tell, this Donald Trump fellow was dating former President Hillary Clinton all the way through the 2016 election. They were Washington’s “it” couple, and their undeniable sexual chemistry was the talk of the town. Then, when the big day came, what did this knucklehead do? He broke her heart by taking the presidency all for himself! That’s no way to treat your girlfriend, and I’m not afraid to use my platform to let him hear it.
