‘My Next Collaboration Will Be With Drake Designing A New Kind Of Ceiling Fan’: 5 Questions With Miley Cyrus

From Disney child star to teen idol, to the wild woman of the VMAs, Miley Cyrus has certainly worn quite a few hats over the course of her career. The 24-year-old singer was kind enough to sit down with us and answer five questions about her life in the entertainment industry.

1. You currently serve as a coach on NBC’s The Voice. What’s that experience been like?

Even with a cast as welcoming as everyone on The Voice, it’s always hard being the new girl. The first time I smashed the “turn” button on my big swivel chair, it ended up spinning me around in circles so fast that I went back in time. The only way I could get back to the present was by sitting in a nearly identical chair and getting struck by lightning, so needless to say, it’s been an adjustment.

2. You’ve collaborated with a wide range of stars and music legends. Do you have any exciting new collaborations coming up?

I’m designing a new kind of ceiling fan with Drake next summer. I’m trying to get DJ Khaled in on it too, but unfortunately, he’s afraid of the wind.

3. What was it like having your real dad play your dad on Hannah Montana?

Oh, shit. Was that guy my dad?

4. You’ve branched out into very disparate musical styles over the years. What genre of music is next?

My next album will actually be an album based on the concept of a murder mystery. If all goes well, during the first song, somebody from my band will die, and then for the next 12 songs, I’ll try to figure out who did it.

5. You’ve changed your style and persona quite a bit since your early days on the Disney Channel, and you seem to catch a lot of heat every time you do it. Does it ever bother you?

It does sometimes, but then I remember that Barack Obama used to get the same exact criticisms that I’ve gotten and he’s doing just fine. Like, when he ran for president and everyone said, “Why isn’t this guy on TV with his dad where he belongs?” Then he won the presidency and it was all, “He’s sexualizing himself to shed his old image.” And now he’s out of office and people say, “Of course Obama is getting back to his roots by singing country on SNL while being all mild and different.” People like to put celebrities into their little categories, so I just try to ignore it.
